  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery sticks, finely chopped
  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Spaghetti:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Sauce:
Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.

  3. Brown the Meat:
Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  4. Add Tomatoes and Seasonings:
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, oregano, basil, bay leaf, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.

  5. Simmer:
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add more beef stock or water if the sauce becomes too thick.

  6. Serve:
Remove the bay leaf and discard. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine when browning the meat.
  • If you prefer a creamier sauce, stir in ¼ cup of heavy cream at the end.

Enjoy this comforting, hearty Spaghetti Bolognese for a family-friendly dinner!
