Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients:
- 400g (14 oz) spaghetti
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 carrots, finely chopped
- 2 celery sticks, finely chopped
- 500g (1 lb) ground beef
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
Cook the Spaghetti:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.Prepare the Sauce:
Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.Brown the Meat:
Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.Add Tomatoes and Seasonings:
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, oregano, basil, bay leaf, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.Simmer:
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add more beef stock or water if the sauce becomes too thick.Serve:
Remove the bay leaf and discard. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine when browning the meat.
- If you prefer a creamier sauce, stir in ¼ cup of heavy cream at the end.
